It was wonderful to see many of you during our Halloween festivities!  Students enjoyed parading around in their creative costumes and playing games with their classmates.  We thank parents for helping plan and facilitate classroom parties and cheering us on during the parade!  The pictures below capture how much fund we had at the event.

Digger Dash Updates
We have already received pledges totaling $24,575 from the Digger Dash!  We thank all of the families that contributed and helped make this event possible!  We are well on our way to fully funding a new shade structure for the front playground.  Please turn in any remaining pledge packets to the PTO mailbox in the office.

Superintendent Tweets School Celebrations After Visiting
Dr. Fagen tweeted several school celebrations after visiting Gold Rush this week.  She highlighted students' ability to apply their learning in real world scenarios and understand essential concepts at deeper levels.

Halloween Events: Costumes, Parties & Parade Route
Halloween is just around the corner and children are asking how we will celebrate at Gold Rush.  Listed below is information regarding appropriate costumes, classroom parties, the parade route and directions for those who do not wish to participate.
We want students to be creative and have fun with their costumes, but safety is our number one priority.  Please adhere to the following guidelines when choosing a costume:

1.     Students may come dressed in a costume, but they must be able to change into school clothes at 10:30.
2.     Costumes may not be demeaning or offensive.
3.     The following will not be allowed:
                                • Face make-up
                                • Depiction of blood or guts
                                • Racist or promiscuous dress
                                • Weapons (swords, guns, scythes)

Halloween parties are “breakfast parties.” They are scheduled the first hour of the school day (9:15- 10:15AM).  It is recommended that party treats be balanced and nutritious with limited sweets.  Our school parade will begin at 10:15 and conclude at 10:30.  Please see the parade route below.

Parents can choose to not have their child participate in Halloween activities.  Regular classroom activities will resume at 10:30.  Students who return to school at this time will receive an excused absence.

Safety Tips & Reminders
·      Cross only at the cross walk when dropping off /picking up your child.
·      Make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the changing weather.

Digger Dash Splash!
On Thursday we awarded our top boy and girl runner at each grade level with the coveted prize of dousing the Principal and Assistant Principal with water!  The students were selective in the tool they chose to get us wet.  The crowd favorite was the large water pail!  We thank you for supporting our school in raising money for a shade structure for our front playground.  We look forward to sharing how much we raised when all of our pledges are in later this month.

Halloween Costume Guidelines
While we will send out more detailed information regarding our Halloween breakfast parties and parade that will be held on Friday, October 29, after break, I do want to provide you with our guidelines for Halloween costumes in the event that you plan to begin preparations over fall break.  While we encourage children to have fun and be creative with their costume, we do not allow weapons, masks or face paint.  These items are prohibited to ensure all students’ safety throughout the morning.

More Information About 4cs & 21st Century Skills
In addition to reporting out on how well your child is progressing in each content area (reading, writing, math, social studies and science), you will receive information on how well he/she is progressing on the 4cs (communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking) and select 21st century skills (resiliency, problem solving, civic responsibility, health and wellness, global awareness and systems thinking) on his/her report card.  The 4cs and 21st Century Skills were identified by national organizations, including the Partnership for 21st Century Learning, as skills students need to be successful as leaders, workers and citizens in the future.  According to P21, the purpose of teaching and assessing the 4cs and 21st Century Skills is to “build students’ knowledge and skills for success in a globally and digitally interconnected world.”  These life skills also help students prepare for rigorous coursework and future workforce challenges. Providing you with information regarding how well your child is mastering the 4cs and 21st century skills is simply additional information regarding his/her growth.

Coat Drive
Student Council will continue to collect gently used coats for various organizations through November 30th.  Please send all donations with your child.
