Students Learn Valuable Lesson From Veterans
Students in grades 3-5 learned several valuable lessons on Veteran’s Day from parents who served in the military.  Major Cliff Flowers, who served in the Air Force Reserves, taught third graders about the branches of the military.  He also shared his experiences serving in Iraq.  Isaac Martinez, who is a Colonel in the Colorado Army National Guard and is a Military Police Battalion Commander, talked with fourth and fifth graders about serving overseas and completing state side missions.  We thank our visitors and all of our veterans for their service to our country!

Parent Input Regarding Future Feeder Calendar
In 2013, the Legend Feeder adopted one calendar - The Split Fall Break Modified Calendar - to make scheduling easier for families with children at multiple schools.  The split fall break modified calendar has presented challenges at all levels. This schedule interferes with Advanced Placement testing and spring activities/sports at the secondary levels. The absence of a Professional Learning Day in early fall and the implications on hiring in the spring  had a negative impact at all levels.  There are also challenges with being on different calendars than other feeders in the district.

The Legend feeder schools are proposing a new calendar.  Current data collected from all feeder schools shows 69% of the employees in favor of the new proposed conventional calendar.  Schools are currently collecting community input on the following two calendar options for future years.

Option 1: Conventional Calendar - Thanksgiving Week off
The key points to this calendar are a week for fall break, one week for Thanksgiving vacation, two weeks for winter break and a week for spring break. Students will start summer the last week of May. Also notice on this calendar that there are two student contact days that are placed the day before fall break and the day before spring break.

Option 2: Split Fall Modified (Current Calendar)
The key points to this calendar are having a week for fall break, a week for Thanksgiving break, two weeks for winter break, and two weeks for spring break. Students will then end school in the first week of June.

We appreciate your feedback.  Please complete the linked survey by Monday, November 30th.  Your input is greatly appreciated!
