Just a couple of important reminders...

NEW CALENDAR IN 2017-2018

The School Advisory Councils from each of the Legend High School Feeder Schools came together on Wednesday evening to discuss the potential of a calendar change for all feeder schools in 2017-2018.

The new conventional calendar includes a week off for Thanksgiving break and was proposed after several issues with the current split modified calendar were identified. As you may recall, the split-modified calendar presented academic and extracurricular conflicts for secondary students and challenged all schools ability to adhere to hiring timelines and provide professional development opportunities throughout the school year.

After reviewing faculty and community survey data, each of the School Advisory Councils unanimously approved the new conventional calendar for 2017-2018. Further, it was determined that this calendar would not be adopted until 2017/2018 to support those families who already made travel plans based on the split modified calendar for 2016/2017. Click here for a copy of the new calendar.

Successful Hour of Code at Gold Rush!

Every student at Gold Rush participated in computer programming activities this week during their Hour of Code. Below are student descriptions about their coding experiences.

"MineCraft coding is kind of hard but I like it because MineCraft is my favorite game and it's fun to see you code and put the blocks in instead of just playing." - Reese 2nd grade

"I can learn that when I put blocks where the bee needs to go, you can get the bee where it needs to be. I think that it's fun because you can move the bee different places by using the blocks." -Anna 2nd grade

"I used to think coding was really hard, but now I think it gets your brain ready for learning."  - Andrew 1st grade

"I used to think coding was only appropriate for parents, but now I know it’s appropriate for every age!" -Kellen 1st grade.

If your child would like to do more coding activities or you would like to explore the activities they can be found at http://gredigitalfleet.blogspot.com/p/hour-of-code.html or https://code.org/.

ELEMENTARY PROGRESS REPORTS (EPR's)

On December 19th, we will be providing parents access to our new and improved Elementary Progress Report (EPR). Please log in here to be sure you are ready to view your child's progress report when the window opens.

Your child’s progress report will still have all of the same great information you’re accustomed to, including progress they are making on reading, writing and math skills. Plus, parents will now be able to see how students are doing on the District’s World Class Outcomes, 4Cs and 21st Century Skills.

EPR Customized For Our School

Each school has the ability to customize their Elementary Progress Report to include school-specific values. Here at Gold Rush Elementary,  we’ve kept teacher’s comments, feedback on behavior and social skills using language consistent with our Go For The Gold expectations.

Local author Justin Matott visited Gold Rush this week to present a creative writing workshop to our fourth grade students.  He discussed the process he uses when writing his books, and he helped students begin to craft their own ideas.

DOUGLAS COUNTY SCHOOLS IMPLEMENT NEW REPORT CARD (EPR)

This additional information gives parents a broader picture of student achievement.
