STUDENTS APPLY OPINION WRITING

Fifth grade students applied their persuasive writing strategies when holding primary elections for Young AmeriTown.  Young AmeriTown is a culminating social studies activity where students demonstrate their knowledge of financial literacy and civic responsibility.  Students applied their knowledge of strong word choice, convincing arguments and supporting evidence as they made speeches convincing their classmates why they should represent their class as the primary candidate for judge and mayor.

CHANGE IN SCHOOL HOURS FOR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR

After obtaining feedback from staff, parents and the Town of Parker, it was decided that Gold Rush will change its school hours to 8:30AM-3:30PM next school year.  The School Advisory Committee reviewed survey data indicating 72 percent of families and 92 percent of faculty and staff were in support of the change.  They also considered a traffic study completed by the Town of Parker noting that the change in school hours would increase traffic flow at the start of the school day, but decrease traffic at the end of the day.  After considering all of the information the School Advisory Council recommended the change and the District gave final approval this week.

CHAMBERS ROAD WIDENING PROJECT

A construction project that will widen Chambers Road from two lanes to four is scheduled to begin in mid March and end in November of 2017.  Construction will start at the intersection of Chambers and Hess and it is projected to reach our school zone by May.  Students will continue to have access to the cross walk and light until the pedestrian bridge is installed in the fall.  Those involved in the construction project met with the school this week to discuss student safety throughout the project. Ongoing updates will be provided to families throughout the project.

IT IS GREAT TO BE BACK!

It was great to return to Gold Rush after being on maternity leave with my daughter Adeline!  I enjoyed visiting your children in their classrooms and seeing how much they have grown since the fall.  I was excited to see students in all grade levels collaborating with their classmates.  Many students were using what they were learning about narrative, opinion and informational writing to provide meaningful feedback to their writing partners.  I was proud of students' ability to communicate their ideas and suggestions in positive, supportive ways.  I was also excited to see how they have grown as authors!

PRIMARY STUDENTS PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS

The first and second grade performance focused on health and wellness.  Students sang and performed movement routines that celebrated healthy behaviors.  Students also created artwork that supported healthy lifestyles.  We thank the specials teachers for preparing students for this event.  We look forward to the final performances on March 3!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

STUDENT ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Children should arrive at school no sooner than 8:55AM when supervision begins. Arrival earlier than 8:55AM poses a safety issue and is not in compliance with district policy. In addition, all children must depart from school when the bell rings at 4:00PM unless they are participating in an after school activity such as Art class, Lego Club, etc. Students arriving early, as well as remaining after school hours will have to enroll in BASE, which is our before and after school program.

STUDENT DELIVERIES
Please refrain from sending flowers, balloon arrangements etc. to your children at school. Such gifts will be held in the office until the end of the day as they are a distraction in the classroom. Thank you for your cooperation.

NO ANIMALS ALLOWED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY
Please do not bring animals on to school property, which includes the building and grounds, with the exception of guide or assistance dogs.
