Parents’ Beliefs about Math Change Their Children’s Achievement

Research shows that parents’ beliefs also influence students’ math achievement.  In the article, Parents’ Beliefs about Math Change Their Children’s Achievement, Boaler states parents’ math anxiety negatively impacted their children. It is important to note that parents’ math knowledge had no impact on their performance.  Boaler reminds parents and educators to send positive messages about math.  For example, she suggests replacing comments like, “math is hard” or “I was never good at math,” with affirmations such as “you can do this!” (Boaler, 2016).  Click here for the full article.

Math in Art?
Students used geometry in art class to create a symmetrical tapestry.  Students applied their knowledge of shapes and angles to complete a radial design.  Students combined their single works into a larger image.  As you can see below the product is stunning.
