What Is Your Everest?
Modern day explorer, Colin O'Brady, spoke with intermediate students about his experience climbing the highest mountain on each continent including Mount Everest.  Students were inspired by his accomplishments and personal story.  As a young adult, Colin overcame a medical set back while traveling abroad.  He shared how setting small personal goals allowed him to later climb the worlds' highest peaks.  Colin challenged each student to find his/her "own Everest" and he assured them that anything is possible by taking one step at at time.

Gold Rush Spelling Bee
We were proud of all of our students who participated in the school spelling bee!  Students were confident as they competed at the school level.  Fifth grade student, Jackson Cohrs, will move forward to compete at the District level.  We thank third grade teacher, Mrs. Castro, for working with all students who participated.

Wish Week: Making A Child's Dream Possible
Gold Rush is excited to participate in Legend High School's Wish Week next week!  All schools feeding into the high school are sponsoring Rayne, a seven year old girl with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Gold Rush students can bring change each day if they wish to participate in Legend's spirit events.  All proceeds will contribute to Rayne's dream of going to Disney World for her birthday in April.  We look forward to joining other schools and making Rayne's dreams come true!

Monday, January 23  * Ski & Summer Looks
Tuesday, January 24 *  Farm & Western Wear
Wednesday, January 25 * Sports Day
Thursday, January 26 * Anything Disney
Friday, January 27 * Pink & Blue - Rayne's Favorite Colors

Battle of the Books
We are proud of all of the students who participate in Battle of the Books!  Students who participate in this club read several books and compete with other schools to share their knowledge of what they read.  We are excited to have a third and fourth grade team and a fifth grade team move on to the next level of the competition.  We thank Mrs. Golish for making Battle of the Books possible!

PTO Recognizes Students' Character
PTO worked with classroom teachers to recognize one student who went above and beyond at each grade level.  Teachers nominated several students and PTO representatives selected the winner.  We are proud of students' leadership and hard work.

Engineering Challenges Students to Apply Math Concepts
As you recall, one of the things teachers learned last Friday is how students can use robots to solve complex math problems.  Students used robots to demonstrate their learning and test their answers to math problems involving area, perimeter, multiplication, fractions and measurement.  Teachers enjoyed learning all the ways that they could use coding to enhance and engage students in this content area.
