Highlights from the Digger Dash
Our annual school fun run, fondly referred to as the Digger Dash, was a tremendous success!  Students enjoyed a morning of fitness and fun.  They proudly ran for new books for all students at all grade levels.  We thank our PTO and parent volunteers for making this honored tradition possible.  See pictures from the event below.  Just a reminder that all fundraising packets are due after fall break.

State Testing Results from Spring 2018
Each year intermediate students take the state assessment referred to as the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS).  All students in grades 3-5 are assessed in English Language Arts and Math and fifth graders are also assessed in Science.

We have several celebrations based on our Spring data! Gold Rush received the highest plan rating from the state seven years in a row, called a performance plan.  Each school is also awarded points from the state based on a variety of factors, including subgroups' academic achievement and growth.  Gold Rush received 91.8% points possible.  We were one of 11 schools out of 87 in the District to achieve a rating of 90% and above.  Click here for a more in-depth description of additional celebrations, areas of growth and goals for the current school year.

Donations for Parker Task Force
Gold Rush has a close relationship with the Parker Task Force.  We have partnered with this organization for our No Waste initiative.  As you are aware, students donate food that would have otherwise gone in the trash to the Task Force.  Last year our contributions alone filled 198 student backpacks.

The head of the organization informed us that they have an additional 700 families in need this fall.  He also shared that their inventory is incredibly low.  In addition to our No Waste initiative, we will have standing bins that you can contribute to any time you are in the building.  A list of items needed is shown below.  You will notice these bins at parent teacher conferences.  We challenge each family to bring one item.

Before and After School Clubs
Students have more opportunities to run outside of the Digger Dash and physical education class.  Many students participate in our before school running club.  We believe that it is essential for students to explore a wide variety of activities to help foster future passions and interests.  In addition to running club, we currently offer the following before and after school clubs and activities: choir, recorder club, Spanish club, art enrichment, Battle of the Books, Math Olympiad and garden club.  Please see the electronic Thursday folder for additional information regarding each event.

Bond & Mill
As you are aware, the Douglas County School District Board of Education voted to place a $40 million Mill Levy Override (MLO) and $250 million no-new-taxes Bond on the 2018 ballot. Additional funding would directly benefit Gold Rush in the following ways:

Gold Rush would be able to...
* Retain more teachers by offering salaries that are competitive with neighboring Districts
* Increase mental health support offered to all students
* Continue to have a healthy building budget that allows for low class size
* Replace classroom technology (audio systems & interactive boards) that is 10 years old

While Gold Rush is a relatively new building, several District schools are significantly dated and have Tier 1 issues that could close the school or parts of it. If the mill does not pass and build needs arise, money would be taken from the general fund. This could significantly decrease the amount that is allocated to all schools. Decreases to Gold Rush's building budget would significantly impact our ability to hire the staff needed to support small classes, specials etc.
